After a six-hour search that ended in Arkansas Tuesday, a suspect accused of shooting & injuring a Southaven Police officer is behind bars.
28-year-old Cody James Dimmett was arrested west of Forrest City, Arkansas around 7:30 Tuesday night. Dimmett was, according to WMC, wanted out of Cobb County, Georgia and the Southaven officer pulled him over early yesterday afternoon in Memphis. During the stop, Dimmett allegedly shot the officer in the arm and stole his unmarked police car.
The Arkansas State Police say that Dimmett was seen by a trooper shortly after the shooting and abandoned the vehicle near St. Francis County Road 255. WMC is reporting that he hid behind a home in the area until he was eventually taken into custody.
The Southaven PD stated that the officer, a member of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, was transported to Region One Hospital where he was treated and has since been released.
The FBI is now handling the ongoing investigation and official charges have not yet been announced.
