Medicaid reimbursement rate freeze in effect

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid is freezing all provider reimbursement rates at the levels that were in effect on July 1st of this year.  This will remain in effect until the Legislature authorizes rate adjustments.

Drew Snyder–Executive Director of the Mississippi Division of Medicaid–discussed the change during an interview with SuperTalk Mississippi this morning on The Gallo Show.  

“In the waning days of the legislative session, the conferees inserted a provision into the Medicaid Tech Bill that prohibited rates of reimbursement from being increased, decreased or otherwise changed from levels in effect on July 1st of 2021.  Medicaid payments are derived from about 70 different payment methods that require approval from the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to get federal matching funds,” Snyder explained.  The rate freeze will insure provider reimbursements remain at current levels.

Snyder also discussed efforts to expand Medicaid through the ballot initiative, which was struck down by the state Supreme Court, as well as other issues pertinent to the program.
