Critical need for blood in Mississippi having an impact on hospitals

posted in: Mississippi News | 0

There’s a critical need for blood across the nation, and our state.  Dr. Claude Brunsun with Mississippi Blood Services told SuperTalk Mississippi right now they can only supply about half of what hospital’s need.

“They’re having to very carefully decide which major surgeries are going to go on.  They’re having to check with us to make sure that we do have blood on the shelves to be  able to deliver to them.”

There’s a critical need for A-negative and B-negative; and a severe shortage of B-positive, O-positive and O-negative, as well as platelets.  During this morning’s interview on The Paul Gallo Show, Brunson explained there are several factors for the shortage:  The pandemic, an aging senior population, and the fact that younger generations haven’t developed the habit of giving.
