Mississippi has broken a state record for the lowest unemployment rate since 1976, according to a report administered by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In January 2021, a State Employment and Unemployment report released that the unemployment rate stood at 6.6% in Mississippi. One year later, the BLS administered the same report, showing that the Mississippi unemployment rate dropped 2% from the previous year.

Other states in the U.S. have had a drop in unemployment rates, including Arkansas, Georgia, Montana, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.

Currently, Nebraska and Utah rank the states with the lowest unemployment rates at 2.2% and the District of Columbia came in with the highest at 6.3% in January 2022.

Governor Tate Reeves commented on the drop via Twitter on Sunday.
