Blue Öyster Cult headlines Mississippi Mudbug Festival

Who would have thought that Andy Gipson was such a big Blue Öyster Cult fan?

Well, we don’t actually know if Gipson is a BÖC fan or not, but what we do know is that the agriculture and commerce commissioner is ecstatic about the second annual Mississippi Mudbug Festival.

The music lineup for this year’s festival is an impressive one with The Tip Tops kicking things off on Thursday night. The Tip Tops are a high-energy dance band from Mobile, Ala., that lights up the stage with covers from The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and more.

Come Friday night, Shake the Bucket of Louisville, Miss., and former American Idol star Hannah Everhart – sometimes referred to as the Katy Perry of country music – will open up for Laine Hardy. Hardy, also a former American Idol contestant, won the competition in 2019.

On Saturday night, Blue Öyster Cult will take the stage at 8 p.m., rocking some of their greatest hits including “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” “Burnin’ for You,” and “Godzilla.”

The one and only Bobby Rush will wrap the weekend up with a matinee performance on Sunday at 3 p.m. Rush, a two-time GRAMMY-winning artist, is a member of both the Blues Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.

The 2022 Mississippi Mudbug Festival will run from Wednesday, April 27 through Sunday, May 1 at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson. While there is no admission cost to get into the gates, there is a small $5 entry fee to get into the Mudbug Music Area.
