Over 82 million COVID-19 vaccines have been wasted across the nation, with Mississippi accounting for more than 400,000 of the doses.
According to MSNBC, Mississippi has disposed of 456,952 doses as of late May, comprising 15 percent of the state’s total.
As for the nation, 11 percent of doses distributed by the federal government have been wasted from December 2020 to May 2022.
Out of the top vaccine distributors, retail pharmacy chains including Walmart and CVS have contributed to the largest disposing of vaccines across the nation at around 25 percent.
Despite the large numbers of wasted doses, the MSDH is still urging Mississippians to receive vaccinations to prevent the further spread of the virus.
