The New Orleans Saints have announced the addition of Philadelphia, Miss. native Fred McAfee, also known as “Fast Freddie,” to the organization’s Hall of Fame.
McAfee began playing football as a junior at Philadelphia High School in Neshoba County. From there, he went on to break rushing records at Mississippi College, where he was named a Division II All-American.
In 1991, the New Orleans Saints drafted McAfee in the 6th round. He proceeded to have a 16-season career in the NFL, playing on four different teams.
Amongst McAfee’s numerous NFL achievements are both a Pro Bowl and All-Pro honor in 1992. He also was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl XXX team in 1995. Ending his career where he began, McAfee’s last career touchdown came in a Saints jersey.
McAfee was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He currently serves as the Vice President of Player Engagement for the New Orleans Saints.
