A new method the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been unveiled to endorse gas safety across Mississippi.
The department’s Liquefied Compressed Gas Division (LC Gas) will be using the new training trailer to teach gas instructors how to properly install propane tanks and regulators. Instructions on how to do leak and pressure checks will also be provided.
“Propane gas accidents are very low in Mississippi because our fire marshals are working hard and training hard,” State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney said. “This trailer will further our mission to keep commercial and residential gas safe. Now, we can offer hands-on training in addition to traditional classroom training.”
The trailer, costing $27,000, was purchased through the Propane Education and Research Fund, which is managed by the LC Gas Board.
Further, the 53-foot trailer consists of computers, televisions, numerous heaters, fire logs, a fryer, a commercial stove, and many propane props to perform authentic repair operations. It will also be used across the state for live trainings.
“With the economy where it is and with lots of hiring turnover in the past couple of years, we’re seeing many new employees at gas companies who have no experience and need this training,” Scottie Cuevas, Director of the LC Gas Division, said.
LC Gas providers and employees are certified by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and they are required to renew their certification every three years.
