The news that construction along U.S. Highway 49 was to be complete by last Friday was too good to be true.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the 7.5 mile stretch of Highway 49 from Florence to Richland will now be completely finished and opened to six lanes by the end of this week if weather allows.
Construction on this portion of Highway 49 began in 2017. It was announced by MDOT in May that the department’s goal was to have the construction complete by the end of summer 2022.
