The Mississippi Center for Public Policy (MCPP) has announced the creation of its Mississippi Leadership Academy for college student leaders.
During the six-part program, college student leaders will be presented with the skills and knowledge that are necessary for them to be agents for change in Mississippi.
“Mississippi needs change if we are to stop being 50th out of 50,” MCPP CEO & President Douglas Carswell said. “Our Leadership Academy aims to help us achieve policy change by supporting future leaders for our state. We have put together an exciting program that introduces participants to the key challenges we face.”
Amongst the areas of expertise will be lessons in the basics of the lawmaking process, free markets, media management, the defense of liberty, especially on college campuses, as well as the unique challenges that Mississippi faces as a state. Each will be taught by a speaker with expertise on the respective topic.
State Auditor Shad White, former U.S. Congressman Chip Pickering, and several leading academics, opinion formers, and policy experts are included in the list of speakers whom students will hear.
One of the main goals for student leaders who graduate from the program is that they will have developed connections with their peers and prominent thought leaders in the state, and will be better prepared to defend American principles, enter the workforce, and lead.
Mississippi Leadership Academy meetings will be held once a month over a seven-month period at the MCPP’s office in Jackson. The program will begin in the Fall of 2022 and end in May 2023. Applications open July 19 for the 2022-2023 class. Students can apply on the MCPP’s website.
