With inflation at a record high, Mississippi’s tax-free weekend could not come at a better time.
Between 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 29, and 12:00 midnight Saturday, July 30, Mississippi shoppers won’t have to worry about paying a 7% sales tax on all clothing, footwear, and school supplies purchases under $100.
It’s worth noting that the tax exemption is based on the individual item’s price rather than the total. For example, if a customer purchases two shirts at $50 each as well as a pair of pants for $75, no sales tax is due even though the combined total ($175) exceeds $100. If a customer buys a pair of $120 shoes, sales tax will still be due as the individual item price exceeds $100.
Even if you’re not in the mood to get out and about, you can still save as Mississippi’s 2022 tax-free weekend includes all online purchases of eligible items under $100.
A full list of eligible and non-eligible items can be found below.
