The new school year has officially commenced at the University of Mississippi, and according to Chancellor Glenn Boyce, this year’s freshman class is the largest in school history.

“We’ve got one of our largest enrollments ever, and certainly, our freshman class will be the largest class we’ve ever enrolled,” Boyce explained during a recent appearance on The Gallo Show. “We’re excited about that, and we’re excited about all of the young people and vibrancy that’s back on campus.”

While enrollment numbers won’t be finalized until later this fall, Boyce did mention that this year’s freshman class has nearly 200 more Mississippi students than the 2021 class.

“One of the things that I’m especially excited about is we’ve grown in the number of in-state Mississippians by 43 percent over the last two years in our freshman class,” Boyce, who has served as chancellor since 2019, continued.

Boyce also expects overall enrollment to be up from the 2021-2022 academic year as retention rates at the university have grown to 89%. The full interview with Boyce can be watched below.
