Heavy rain and thunderstorms have persisted across the Magnolia State this week, causing flooding and high water in parts of Mississippi.

According to Malary White of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Wednesday’s rainfall set a record in the capital city.

“We actually saw record rainfall numbers. Jackson set a record for rainfall of five inches and broke the record that was set in 2008,” White explained. “There were some areas that over the last 72 hours have seen up to 14 inches of rain.”

Numerous washouts occurred across the state due to the ongoing heavy rainfall, as well as thousands of power outages. As of Thursday morning, there was only one injury and no fatalities reported from the weather.
