Pearl River at Jackson crests at just under 35.5 feet

The Pearl River at Jackson crested Monday morning at 35.37 feet, slightly lower than the original projection of 36 feet.

While the river has reached its crest, officials with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urge those who were forced to evacuate to not return home until the agency says it’s safe to do so as water may not fully recede for another 7-10 days.

According to the National Weather Service, injections from the Ross Barnett Reservoir have been cut by 10,000 cubic feet per second.

Shelters at the Jackson Police Training Academy (3000 St. Charles Street) and Madison United Methodist Church (100 Post Oak Road) remain open.

If your home is flooded or if you approach a flooded area, do not walk through the water as it can be deeper than expected or contain debris, bacteria, or animals.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.
