The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is now accepting applications for Cadet Class 67.
Captain Criss Turnipseed says that he and other law enforcement leaders are preparing to begin trooper training classes for those interested in joining the MHP. According to Turnipseed, these classes are scheduled to begin in January 2023.
“We’re trying to get everything ready and prepared for this patrol school coming around in late January. We’re taking applications out to October 14. So we’re getting prepped for that patrol school and it will be about an 18-week school and we will add some more troopers,” Turnipseed said. “We’re up to about 506 troopers now out of our 650 max allotment. So we’re trying to add to those numbers.”

In July, the MHP raised troopers’ salaries from $39,140 per year to $50,000 annually. The department is hoping this will raise more interest for people to pursue a career in law enforcement.
