Sergeant First Class Blake Hedrick and Staff Sergeant Eric McElhenney have been recognized by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division for their heroic actions.
The two officers swiftly responded to an accident with four women trapped inside a vehicle. None of the four women wore seatbelts, causing them to become entangled between the seats and the floorboard.
Upon arriving on the scene, McElhenney noticed that one lady was trapped on the floor and was struggling to breathe. Hedrick arrived soon after and the two quickly assessed the situation. The officers decided to move three of the ladies to free the woman trapped on the floor.
According to a report from the MDPS, all four women experienced multiple compound fractures and potential internal bleeding. Two of the females had to be airlifted to a hospital. Nevertheless, the instant response and decision making of Hedrick and McElhenney may have prevented additional injuries and possibly fatalities.
