New York Times names Jackson restaurant one of 50 best in America

The New York Times has released its annual list of the best restaurants to visit across the United States once again, with one of Jackson’s very own making the cut — Elvie’s.

Elvie’s first opened in February 2020 shortly before COVID-19 restrictions forced the temporary closure of countless restaurants across the state. With a lot of hard work and a lot of good food, the all-day cafe was able to reopen and offer its elegant dishes of breakfast foods, seafood, and more to residents and visitors alike.

“Meals here proceed seamlessly from New Orleans-style baked oysters to pork tonkatsu, vegetable lumpia to redfish amandine, shrimp remoulade to cacio e pepe. Chef Hunter Evans, who owns Elvie’s with his fellow Jackson native Cody McCain, brings a sure hand to these dishes, served in a tastefully restored, once-abandoned home in an emerging cosmopolitan section of Mississippi’s capital,” NYT food columnist Brett Edwards wrote.
