The former executive director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services is set to plead guilty to two federal charges and 18 counts of fraud or conspiracy in connection to his role in the $77 million TANF embezzlement scheme.
First reported by The Daily Journal, court documents show that Davis will plead guilty to the federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and theft of federal dollars, both of which combine for a maximum sentence of 15 years.
The former welfare agency head, who was indicted in February, will also plead guilty to 13 state counts of fraud against the government and five state counts of conspiracy.
It’s unclear what deal was reached through Davis’ guilty plea, but court documents do show that he is expected to testify against other criminal defendants in the largest case of public fraud in Mississippi history.
During Thursday’s episode of The Gallo Show, State Auditor Shad White spoke on the matter.
