In order to assist Mississippians struggling to pay their gas bills this holiday season, Atmos Energy recently donated $200,000 to the Salvation Army’s Jackson Chapter.

Atmos Energy’s gift comes as part of an enterprise-wide “Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities” drive to invest in educational, literacy, energy assistance, and food security resources across the over one-thousand communities it serves.

“The Salvation Army’s mission has remained the same since the day it began – to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination,” Major Bill Shafer said. “The holiday season is such a challenging time for some in our community. We are very blessed to have a partner in Atmos Energy who truly cares about families in Jackson and the metro area.”

Central District Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey, a proponent for bill payment assistance, touted the energy company’s dedication to helping residents in the Magnolia State stay warm during the winter months.

“We appreciate the ongoing efforts and contributions by Atmos Energy to help provide assistance to their customers who may be struggling to pay their bills and keep their home warm during the holidays,” Bailey said. “Based on recent market prices of natural gas and the potential rise in costs on energy bills, I encourage residents to take advantage of billing assistance programs, as well as proven energy efficiency and conservation programs.”

In 2022, Atmos Energy has contributed a total of $726,461.29 in energy assistance dollars to help Mississippians stay warm. Customers may locate an energy assistance agency by visiting here or calling 211.
