Now that the 118th U.S. Congress is in full effect, committee assignments have been allocated to elected members of the House of Representatives.
Below is a list of committees on which Mississippi’s delegation will be serving.
District 1: Trent Kelly (Republican)
- Armed Services Committee – Having served as a Major General in the U.S. Army, Kelly will operate as a member of the panel to oversee defense policy, ongoing military affairs, and various military programs.
- Committee on Agriculture – Representing a district with a large rural population, the congressman will help oversee federal agriculture policy and advocate for legislation that benefits agrarian populations.
District 2: Bennie Thompson (Democrat)
- Committee on Homeland Security – Previously serving as the committee’s chairman while Democrats had a majority in the House, Thompson will now operate as the ranking member of the minority party.
District 3: Michael Guest (Republican)
- Appropriations Committee – As a majority member of the panel, Guest will assist in regulating expenditures of money by the U.S. government and draft appropriations bills that match ones produced by the Senate.
- Committee on Homeland Security – Previously operating on the panel as a member of the minority party, Guest will now serve his third term on the committee as a member of the majority party.
District 4: Mike Ezell (Republican)
- Committee on Homeland Security – The first-term congressman will use his experience in law enforcement to help enact security legislation and oversee the Department of Homeland Security as a majority member of the panel.
- Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure – As a majority member of the committee, Ezell will help oversee legislation pertaining to improving highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads as well as maritime and waterborne transportation.
