For the first time ever, the East Central Community College baseball team is heading to the NJCAA Division II World Series.

The Warriors (37-18) secured their spot in Enid, Okla., on Friday with an 8-2 win over No. 1 LSU Eunice in the Gulf District Championship. The victory was arguably the biggest in the program’s history.

“This is big for us of course,” ECCC head coach Neal Holliman said. “It depends on what you are striving for, and for us, it’s to win the national championship so this is a step in that process. It’s a big step though as this was our third time in this game, but I’m proud of our guys as we were able to conquer it.”

ECCC will join Heartland, Lackawanna, Lansing, Frederick, Madison, Southeastern, South Arkansas, St. Johns River State, and Glendale in the double-elimination tournament beginning Saturday, May 27.
