Just two weeks after winning a state championship, East Union assistant baseball coach Chris Lucius has passed away.
Lucius, who helped lead the team to a 31-5 record and the program’s second consecutive state championship in 2023, had been battling leukemia. He was 37 years old.

On June 18, the school revealed that Lucius’ cancer had returned and was taking a toll on him.
“Coach Lucius, Ms. Leigh, and the kids covet your prayers as Coach battles some serious issues relating to his cancer that has returned,” a social media post from East Union read. “Thank you in advance for remembering this family.”
At this time, no funeral arrangements have been announced for Lucius.
