Jackson man arrested after 24 malnourished dogs, 36 pounds of drugs found in home

A Jackson man has been taken into custody for possessing drugs, a gun, and two dozen malnourished animals.

On Saturday, Capitol Police’s Flex Unit conducted a search warrant on a home in Mississippi’s capital city.

During the search, officers found 31 pounds of marijuana, three pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, over three pounds of THC wax, hundreds of THC vape pens, and hundreds of multiple different edibles packaged as chips and candy.

Authorities also found a firearm, more than $7,000, and 24 malnourished dogs in the home.

43-year-old Lewis Marshall was arrested. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and felony animal cruelty.

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, additional charges are expected.

The Madison Police Department, Rankin County Animal Control, Cheshire Abbey, and Animal Rescue Fund assisted Capitol Police with the incident.
