Mississippi State Dominated by LSU 41-14

Mississippi State gained 12 yards on its first play from scrimmage Saturday. With 3:17 left in the second quarter, Woody Marks broke off a 52 yard run to bring MSU’s total offense back out of the negatives. That about sums up an awful day for the maroon and white, as LSU dominated every facet of the game in a demoralizing 41-14 victory.

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers were the stars of the day, with the quarterback slicing up the Bulldog secondary to the tune of a 30-34, 361 yards day, adding 64 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Nabers was completely unstoppable in the first half, finishing up with 13 catches for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, LSU sacked Bulldog quarterbacks 4 times and holding State to 201 yards of total offense.

State’s first scoring drive came as a result of that long Marks run, as the Bulldogs closed out the first half with an 9 yard scoring run by Tulu Griffin. Will Rogers had one of the worst days of his career, finishing 11-28 with only 103 yards. A season that began with him in full pursuit of the all time SEC passing record has seen him unable to move the ball through the air. Marks added 75 yards on the ground, but by and large, it was nothing doing all day long for Kevin Barbay’s offense. State added a late score on a four yard pass by Mike Wright to Antonio Harmon.

Mississippi State falls to 2-1 on the season, 0-1 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will be back in action on September 23 when they travel to Williams-Brice Stadium for their road matchup of the season with South Carolina.
