Bond has been denied for the ex-cop accused of killing a nurse in Jackson earlier this week.
On Friday morning, Judge June Hardwick denied bond for Marcus Johnson, saying that he was a flight risk. Johnson, 33, served on the Jackson Police Department until his controversial resignation in 2013. He is accused of killing his ex-boyfriend, Carlos Collins, 33, at the Tapestry Northridge Apartments on Tuesday morning.
Johnson was captured Wednesday afternoon in Louisiana after leading troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol on a chase that began in Warren County before crossing the state line.
According to authorities, they responded to a call reporting a man had been killed at Tapestry, which sits off Old Canton Road on Parkway Drive. When they arrived, they found Collins had been shot and hit with an ax. Family members of Collins later confirmed to WJTV that he was a registered nurse from Yazoo City and him and Johnson had previously been in a relationship with Collins filing a restraining order against Johnson before being murdered.
Johnson was forced to resign from the Jackson Police Department after being arrested in neighboring Ridgeland for careless driving and no proof of insurance. Before resigning, he had also been accused of stealing from JCPenny. In 2014, he was arrested again for impersonating a police officer after he pulled over a Jackson State University student and told her that he would not issue a ticket if she slept with him. He was also found to be in possession of a stolen police radio.
Collins’ vehicle was still parked at the Tapestry apartments as of Thursday afternoon as the investigation into his murder continues.
