The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued an initial damage report from severe weather that swept across portions of the state May 12-13.

According to MEMA, one person died in Wilkinson County. The deceased has been confirmed as Patricia Williamson, 68, of Sicily Island, La. Williamson was a passenger in a vehicle on Highway 61 when the driver lost control and collided with a tree.

In a separate incident, a person was injured in Lawrence County. Damage has also been reported in the following counties:

  • Jefferson Davis – 5 homes
  • Lincoln – 3 homes
  • Smith – 1 home, 5 businesses

MEMA added that trees are still down, and roads are blocked in certain areas. The damage assessment is expected to be updated in the coming days as more information comes in.

“We understand there is more damage than reported so far,” officials wrote. “Counties continue to assess the extent of damage and report it to the state.”

MEMA encourages residents who sustained damage to file an insurance claim, take photos of the damage, and report it via the agency’s self-report tool.
