One death has been reported as severe weather hit parts of Mississippi earlier this week.

In Simpson County, winds knocked over a mobile oil well tower on a site at Highway 28 and Mangum Garner Road. One worker with Challenger Deepwell Servicing was atop the 55-foot structure when it hit the ground.

The 24-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released at this time, was from Columbia and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Mississippi’s trend of severe weather could continue Thursday as thunderstorms first brought heavy rains, hail, lightning strikes, and strong winds overnight Monday. Additional storms came through Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with thousands losing power throughout the state.
