A Gulfport teenager has been arrested for allegedly trying to kill her sleeping mother.
The Gulfport Police Department arrested Lexi Jade Brown, 15, and charged her with one count of attempted murder and one count of first-degree arson.
According to a news release, GPD officers responded to a call in the 13000 block of Dee Avenue on Friday in reference to a cutting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.
An investigation revealed the victim was asleep in bed when she awoke to Brown attacking her with a knife. Brown then attempted to start a fire inside the residence. When questioned by detectives, the teen said she had been planning to kill her mother, who she referred to as a “weird b—-.”
Brown, who is white, also told police that her mother had been “suppressing the Black in her.” She was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held on a $1.25 million bond. Her mother was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
