A Tallahatchie businessman has been taken into custody for allegedly defrauding the government.
State Auditor Shad White announced that special agents from his office arrested John Jackson, a landscape architect and owner of JPA, Inc., on Thursday. He is charged with one count of false statements or representations to defraud the government.
Jackson is accused of submitting invoices to the city of Tutwiler for services that he never provided, resulting in $155,039 of stolen funds.
“This is one of the larger cases we’ve had this year, so I want to thank the investigators on my team for their diligent work and the prosecutors for being willing to take the case,” White said.
Jackson faces up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted.
