Authorities have arrested one man and are searching for two others after the trio allegedly attempted to bring contraband into a Yazoo County correctional facility.
The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were tipped about the introduction of prohibited items into the jail on Monday around 7 p.m. Police immediately developed a strategy and a surveillance operation to catch the individuals who were said to be stationed at a local hotel.
Shortly after midnight, three Hispanic males exited the hotel. Two were carrying bags and hopped into a white Honda that was parked in front of the unidentified establishment.
After the vehicle got on Jerry Clower Blvd., deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled the scene. After the driver reportedly crashed the vehicle into a ditch, two suspects fled on foot with the bags.
The driver, whose identity has not been released at this time, was arrested at the scene. However, the two other suspects were able to evade deputies and remain on the loose. One of the bags the men were carrying was recovered by authorities a few steps from the car.
“This successful arrest exemplifies our dedication to maintaining a secure environment in Yazoo County. To those with criminal intentions, be aware: under Sheriff McCoy’s leadership, Yazoo County, MS will not be a sanctuary for unlawful activities,” a statement from the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office reads.
Anyone with information about the fugitives’ whereabouts can call the YCSO at (662)746-5611.
