A Pearl River County man has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for production of child pornography.
43-year-old Garald Benson Johnson admitted in court to filming himself having sexual intercourse with a minor. He was indicted by a grand jury in May of last year and pled guilty to charges of production of child pornography on August 29, 2023.
Benson’s case was investigated by the Choctaw Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin J. Payne and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian K. Burns.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 that combats the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Benson’s sentencing is the second Project Safe Childhood case sentenced in as many days, with another south Mississippi man getting 10 years a cyber sex crime on Wednesday.
