An undocumented migrant is facing charges in Mississippi for credit card fraud.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Juan Jesus Flores Cupido, of Mexico, on Tuesday. He is facing one felony charge after an investigation into fraudulent use of a compromised government credit card.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the HCSO noted that Cupido and possibly others are accused of spending up to $10,000 with the card on building materials at retail lumber stores in Waveland, D’Iberville, and Mobile, Ala.
Cupido was arrested at a residence located on Gulf Avenue in Gulfport. He was taken into custody without incident with authorities later finding out that he was in the U.S. illegally and previously had been deported.
Cupido was transported to the Harrison County Jail and is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond set by Judge Brandon Ladner. U.S. Border Patrol agents also issued a detainer on Cupido for immigration violations, meaning he is not bondable.
