Officials are warning residents in two north Mississippi cities not to be alarmed if they witness an uptick in aerial activity this week.

As part of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division’s plan to showcase one of the division’s primary capabilities, training exercises with military helicopters will be conducted in the cities of Oxford and Tunica from Tuesday through Thursday.

The exercises are part of a large-scale, long-range air assault mission across multiple states in which the helicopters, carrying soldiers, will make several refueling and resupply stops along a designated flight path before reaching the training objectives at Fort Johnson, La.

Army officials have organized with leaders in the local communities to ensure smooth operations and to prevent any unforeseen issues from occurring.

The multi-state exercises began on Sunday, Aug. 4, and will conclude on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
