A Mississippi student is in custody after pointing a handgun at another student in the school’s bathroom.
The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the incident happened Monday morning at Thrasher Attendance Center, per a report from WTVA. The child is said to have been toting a loaded nine-millimeter handgun before threatening a peer with it. No shots were fired, and the individual has since been taken into custody.
The Prentiss County School District issued a statement, ensuring the safety of students and staff after an arrest was made.
“District officials have worked closely with law enforcement officers to resolve the situation,” the statement reads. “School resource officers are on campus and there is no threat to the safety of our students and staff.”
As of now, the identity of the suspect has not been released due to age. The student is being held at a juvenile detention center in Corinth.
