State authorities are investigating after a rape allegation arose involving a school resource officer in Hernando.
According to DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton, Hosie Porter has been arrested and charged with sexual battery and rape. Police have confirmed that Porter’s alleged rape victim is an adult and there is no reason to infer that a child was harmed.
Hernando Police Captain Kyle Hodge announced that the department was made aware of the allegation last Tuesday and that the sexual assault incident allegedly occurred while Porter was on duty.
Details surrounding the reported assault have been passed along to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which will conduct the investigation into the alleged crimes against the officer.
Porter was initially placed on administrative leave but has since resigned from his post within the police department.
