A woman is behind bars for allegedly stealing over 200 items from mailboxes throughout central Mississippi.
Authorities report that investigators were tipped off about fraudulent activity related to numerous unauthorized charges at local convenience stores. Through the investigation process, police identified 36-year-old Jecyn Leigh Nino as the primary suspect.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Nino was arrested during a traffic stop. Law enforcement found that the suspect had been staying at an Airbnb location within the county.
A search warrant for the property led investigators to discover 200 items of stolen mail and 150 stolen checks. Nino is said to have stolen checks out of mailboxes in Rankin, Madison, and Hinds counties.
She is charged with two counts of credit card fraud, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle while in possession of a firearm. More charges are expected.
Local officials have been in communication with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service concerning the stolen mail.
