As Jackson continues to battle high crime rates, a public rally will soon be underway for those who want to see a safer capital city.
Fabian Nelson, a state legislator who represents a portion of Jackson, issued a press release announcing that the “Stop the Violence” rally will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of McDowell Road and Belvedere Drive. The community event aims to raise awareness about violence and “promote a message of peace, unity, and solidarity.”
The public rally will include participation from local churches, elected officials, and community organizations. Multiple speakers will get behind the microphone and engage with attendees on what needs to be done to foster a safer community.
“Violence affects us all, and it is essential that we come together as a community to address this critical issue,” Nelson stated. “I invite everyone to join us to stand in solidarity and advocate for positive change.”
Nelson is hopeful Jackson residents will attend and offer any input that could result in the creation of a stronger, more peaceful community.
