As spooky season is here, so is the demand for sugary treats, and according to a new study, Mississippians are buying one candy more than any other brand.
Instacart found that candy corn is no longer king of Halloween in the Magnolia State. Instead, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have taken over the throne at the No. 1 spot in the annual holiday study.
Based on October 2023 numbers, Mississippi joined 39 other states to purchase more Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups than any other brand.
The report also revealed that chocolate is an overall fan-favorite in Mississippi. If residents aren’t filling their bowls or bags with peanut butter cups, they’re probably making room for a Hershey’s bar or two.
Instacart said Mississippi is one of just four states – including Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming – that buys Hershey’s Milk Chocolate more than the national average.
National findings from Instacart included:
- 83% of Americans plan to purchase fun-size candies in a variety pack.
- 36% of Americans will purchase full-size candies.
- 22% of Americans will splurge for king-size candies.
- 50% of Americans plan to eat Halloween candy.
- 76% of Americans like to celebrate Halloween.
- 25% of Americans say Halloween is their favorite holiday.
