A woman has been convicted of fatally shooting her boyfriend in Oxford two years ago.
According to The Oxford Eagle, 31-year-old Alexandria Griste was given 20 years in state prison after being convicted of imperfect self-defense manslaughter.
Griste had reportedly been dating 29-year-old Cory Lyles for approximately a year and lived together at the time of the shooting. Eyewitness reports used by the prosecution during the case said the couple was seen arguing at a softball game one day before the shooting – using the evidence to point to a troubled, potentially abusive relationship.
The shooting occurred on June 8, 2022, shortly after midnight on South Lamar Boulevard. After Lyles died at the scene, Griste was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Griste pleaded not guilty to that charge and claimed self-defense.
