‘Now is your time to shine’: Fishermen encouraged to cast lines on Mississippi Gulf Coast

Looking to cast a rod and reel somewhere along the Mississippi Gulf Coast? Well, one expert says you’re in luck.

According to Captain Ronnie Daniels with Fisher-Man Guide Services, now is the best time to take a trip down south in pursuit of reeling in a large quantity of fish. While some may be occupied with other popular activities during their spare time, Daniels argues that time may better be spent out on the water.

“I’ve said it for years. Once football season starts, a lot of people forget about fishing. Obviously, once hunting season starts, a lot of people fall off on fishing,” Daniels said on SuperTalk Outdoors with Ricky Mathews.

“October through the end of November, and even into December, with our climate we have, is some of the best fishing of the year, especially if you’re wanting to catch numbers of fish. We put a lot of fish in the boat during those months.”

Daniels, a United States Coast Guard licensed captain with 20 years of fishing experience, adds that those who don’t have a boat can even expect to have a big day on the shores.

“Everybody thinks you have to run a long way to catch fish. If you don’t have a big boat or you’re confined to the backwaters or bays, now is your time to shine,” Daniels said.

As to which bodies of water are rife with fish, the captain provides a closer look at spots anglers can anticipate having fortune on their side.

“The back bay — Bay St. Louis and the mouths of the rivers are just loaded with fish and bait,” Daniels added. “Everything is right where it’s supposed to be this time of the year.”
