A former Quitman High School bookkeeper has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
Mississippi State Auditor Shad White reported that Memory Smith took cash from the high school’s activity fund and pocketed the cash for personal use. No specific expenditures were announced. Smith pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and was sentenced on Tuesday.
“I’m thankful for the tireless efforts from the investigators and prosecutors for the joint work required to bring this case to a close,” White said.
Smith was prosecuted in the 10th District Circuit Court and was sentenced to seven years suspended, five years probation, and a $2,000 fine.
