Ridgeland-based health insurance company Shared Health has partnered with Mississippi nonprofit food bank Extra Table to help ensure needy families are stocked for Thanksgiving.
Shared Health is collaborating with the nonprofit to donate 9,000 chickens and 12,600 boxes of Louisiana Fish Fry Cornbread Stuffing Mix to 59 of Extra Table’s food pantry partners at distribution points in Greenville, Shannon, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, and Jackson for the Henny 500.
The Henny 500 is a two-day, five-city distribution of Thanksgiving food items.
“We are sincerely thankful to have a partner like Shared Health support our mission to feed more hungry Mississippians,” Extra Table Executive Director Martha Allen said. “Providing more food to more tables this Thanksgiving is something we can all be grateful for.”
Each food pantry received approximately 150 chickens and 210 boxes of Louisiana Fish Fry Cornbread Stuffing Mix.
“For most people, the holidays are a festive time,” Shared Health CEO John Cole said. “However, many people don’t have the extra funds to provide themselves or their families with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. It’s our hope this donation of chickens and dressing helps those in need celebrate the season with their loved ones.”
