Ole Miss basketball remains ranked, Mississippi State falls out of latest AP top 25

Ole Miss remains ranked and Mississippi State has fallen out of the latest top 25 from the Associated Press after both men’s basketball programs suffered defeat for the first time this season.

The Rebels (6-1) came in at No. 23 in the polls following a mostly-succesful outing on the road last week. Chris Beard’s squad earned a thrilling 96-85 overtime win versus BYU in the Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego.

In that same tournament, Ole Miss went toe-to-toe with then-No. 13 Purdue, but ultimately lost in an 80-78 thriller. But the Rebels remained ranked despite the loss. Next up for Chris Beard’s crew is a Tuesday night showdown at Louisville in the SEC/ACC Challenge. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.

Mississippi State (6-1), on the other hand, dropped out of the top 25 after suffering a double-digit loss to unranked Butler in the Arizona Tip-Off. The loss followed a Thanksgiving night domination of UNLV — one in which Chris Jans’ club won 80-58.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday night in a contest against Pittsburgh in the ACC/SEC Challenge. The game will begin in Humphrey Coliseum at 8:15 p.m. CT.

As always, Ole Miss and Mississippi State basketball games are broadcast on participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations along with various television providers.
