Tornado confirmed to have touched down in Jackson County

The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Jackson County on Friday afternoon as portions of Mississippi continue to see severe weather.

NWS confirmed that the twister hit near the Wade community at 12:27 p.m. and was moving northeast at 20 miles per hour into George County. At 12:45 p.m., the tornado warning for Jackson County was allowed to expire and at 12:50 p.m., the tornado warning for George County was allowed to expire.

This comes after NWS issued a tornado warning for portions of southeast Mississippi, including Leakesville, until 2 p.m.
