A Mississippi man will spend over 24 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor on a Choctaw Indian reservation.

Court documents reveal that Brett Keith Thomas, 28, committed sexually abusive acts against a child under the age of 12 back in 2016.

A federal grand jury indicted Thomas in the summer of 2023, and he later pled guilty to the sex crimes in June 2024. He faced up to life in prison but was handed a lighter sentence on Monday.

The Choctaw Police Department and the FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin J. Payne and Brian K. Burns prosecuted the case.
