One lottery player has been marked as the luckiest in Mississippi history.

An unnamed individual from Petal will lay claim to $10 million after matching all five Double Play white balls plus the Double Play Powerball during Monday night’s Powerball drawing. The jackpot is the largest win since the lottery tickets began being sold in Mississippi in 2018.

“The accomplishment marked the largest win in Mississippi Lottery history, and nationally, it’s the fifth Double Play jackpot winner of the game ever,” a press release from the Mississippi Lottery Corporation reads, noting the Powerball Double Play top prize has only ever been won in Maryland, Florida, Kentucky, and now Mississippi.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petal Food Mart. The same location sold a Powerball ticket in December 2023 that turned into $50,000 for the lucky gambler.

Jeff Hewitt, president of the Mississippi Lottery Corporation, believes the latest win could be a boost to the state’s gaming industry as others who have never played may visit a local retailer and try their luck.

“This is a milestone for the Mississippi Lottery,” Hewitt said. “Not only do we have our first Powerball Double Play top-prize winner, but this is also the largest win our state lottery’s history. It’s an exciting day for players and retailers.”
