In the middle of Spring Severe Weather Preparedness Week in the Magnolia State, some Mississippians could feel the first effects of the new weather season as soon as Wednesday.
Mississippi Emergency Management Agency officials announced Wednesday morning that a statewide tornado drill was canceled in anticipation of a true threat.
National Weather Service forecasters say severe weather is likely in southeast Mississippi in the afternoon and evening, while the rest of the state could potentially see dangerous weather as well.
Potential weather factors could include strong tornadoes, damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour, flash flooding, and hail.
