Ole Miss dropped five spots to No. 11 while Southern Miss idled at No. 23 in the latest D1baseball rankings.

Mike Bianco’s club fell to No. 11 following a relatively successful week that was soured by a tough series loss to a now-No. 4 Tennessee team featuring former Rebels Liam Doyle and Andrew Fischer. On Tuesday, Ole Miss (27-9, 9-6 SEC) run-ruled Memphis 10-0, then went on to amass a program record of 29 runs in Wednesday’s matchup against Alcorn State.

Over the weekend, the Rebels dropped game one against Tennessee but took game two, setting up a dramatic rubber match in front of a raucous crowd at Swayze Field. Despite leading 8-7 going into the top of the ninth, Ole Miss surrendered a three-spot during what would end up being the Volunteers’ final at-bat of the game. The Rebels did not score in the final frame, sealing a tough loss.

Looking ahead, Ole Miss will host Little Rock on Tuesday before traveling east to face South Carolina this weekend.

Southern Miss (24-12, 10-5 Sun Belt) maintained its No. 23 ranking after splitting its four games of the week. The Golden Eagles fell short in a midweek contest at Alabama, but got back on the right side of the win/loss column in conference play. Christian Ostrander’s club secured the series in the first two games at Texas State. However, the broom remained in the closet as a high-scoring game three favored the Bobcats.

Next up for Southern Miss is a Tuesday showdown at Southeastern Louisiana before a three-game home series versus Georgia State.

Mississippi State (22-14, 5-10 SEC) did not crack the top-25 following its second consecutive conference series win. The Bulldogs took two of three at now-No. 15 Alabama over the weekend. Chris Lemonis’ club will have a shot to make waves in the rankings with a midweek outing against Southern University and a winnable three-game home stint versus Florida on the horizon.
