The former mayor of Byhalia, a current alderwoman, and the mayor’s sister were all arrested in connection with a burglary case.
Former Mayor Deborah Weathers and her sister, Lori Wilson, were charged with burglary of a building and conspiracy to commit the crime of commercial burglary. Alderwoman Delainer Richmond, who was reelected on June 3, was charged with receiving stolen property over $25,000.
All three were arrested on June 17.
According to WREG-TV, the trio pulled off a burglary of Weathers’ nephew, who is Wilson’s son, totaling an estimated $150,000. The victim accused his mother and aunt of emptying his house, which was not occupied at the time, over a one to two-week period, then reselling the stolen goods at a yard sale.
The victim also said he believed his mother had stolen and sold the items to pay legal bills in an ongoing legal dispute with him.
Weathers and Wilson were released on bond from the Marshall County Jail, though Richmond had bond revoked as she was already out on bond for a separate, ongoing drug case. She was arrested an charged with conrpiracy to commit a crime and manufacturing marijuana in June of 2024.
All three were indicted in October 2024 by a grand jury in the burglary case. City officials say they are not sure what will happen to Richmond’s seat after the felony burglary charge.
Weathers was elected unopposed into Byhalia city hall in 2022. She resigned in December 2023.
