The former treasurer for the Caledonia Park Commission has pleaded guilty to embezzlement, according to an announcement by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor.

Megan Berry admitted to stealing thousands of dollars that came into her possession by virtue of her employment with the commission that oversees the city’s public parks. She then pocketed the money for personal use.

Berry was sentenced Monday to five years of supervision and ordered to pay $12,256.65 in restitution and $600 in fines.

“I’m grateful that we’re able to work with prosecutors around the state on cases like this,” State Auditor Shad White said. “We will continue to work on cases big and small to ensure your money is spent properly.”

White reminded people that suspected fraud can be reported to his office on the state auditor’s website or by calling 1-800-321-1275.
